I was once offered a job as a guest lecturer on a classical cruise, Italy, Sicily, Athens and Istanbul. Wish I'd taken it but I fell in love instead.

stay in sultanhamet. theres some good places on akbiyik cadessi and at night theres decent, relaxed bars there doing booze and nargleigh.
the sunset bar and grill in levant is good for a view.

Things you have to do
Hagia Sophia
Grand and Spice Bazaar
Taksim Square and the walk donw Istiklal to the Genoese Tower. Time it to get up there for sunset.
Mackerel baguette by galata bridge, then take the ferry to ortokoy and get a baked potato there (trust me).
Hammam, but dont go to the ones the guides tell you to. Get a cab and go to Buyuk Hammam.
The blue mosque smells of cheesy feet.
There\\'s fuck all on the asian side.
Topkapi palace is boring.

tle - I've never harboured strong feelings either way about Turkey that I can recall, so it is more than likely that if I said that, I was just winding you up. I used to do a lot of that, and I'm sorry.
If it makes you feel any better, I have had a shit couple of weeks, and I've just eaten a whole packet of butterscotch angel delight, because there was nothing else in the press, and I now feel nauseous, and have to get ready to go out feeling queasy. I have SCUPPERED myself.
